Why are we serving with Asian Access?

Because vision, innovation, and partnership in evangelism and leadership training have always been core values for Asian Access. When we joined the Asian Access team, we knew we would be joining with visionary missionaries and nationals who were committed to exploring every possible avenue to see multiplied lives transformed by the power of the gospel. |

Background Info:
Barbara first went to Japan as a short-term single missionary in the summer of 1981. Gary and Barbara went together as a married couple for short-term outreach during the summer of 1985. They arrived in Japan as career missionaries in December, 1988 with one-year-old Jessica.
Ministry Assignment:
Gary serves as Editor of Japan Harvest, the journal of the Japan Evangelical Missionary Association. Among just a few of their activities, Gary and Barbara serve together as Higashi Kanto Church Multiplication team leaders, while Gary develops ministry resources, and Barbara leads mother's parenting classes.
When you're in Japan, be sure to...
Drive on the correct (left!) side of the road.
Funniest story of life in Japan...
Once we were visiting with some Japanese friends and Gary was sharing the basics of the gospel. As he was explaining how God had come to earth in the Person of Jesus Christ, his tongue got tangled. Rather than saying "ningen" (person), to his dismay he heard himself saying "ninjin" (carrot)!
What we've learned here...
For the most effective ministry, be yourself!
How is God blessing your life and ministry?
From providing us with just the right vehicle and convenient housing at just the right price, to surprising us with significant ministry relationships at key teachable moments, to preparing us to come alongside Japanese co-workers in times of discouragement, we can hardly begin to describe the fulfillment we find in serving the Lord in this nation!
In Japan, we enjoy...
Walking outside after dark with no fear of crime, barbecuing our own dinner at the table in a local "yakiniku" restaurant, seeing the commitment and sacrifice of Japanese Christians.
